Type illustrationCanopy Shores Park is a 33 acre county park on Christina Drive in the Shores community, on the mainland along the Intracoastal Waterway rather than out on the beach island. It takes its name from its large oak hammock, and it makes a good separate outing when you want shade and a walk instead of sand.
The main draw is a paved loop of about one mile through the hammock, used for walking, biking and birdwatching. A playground, pavilion, grills and restrooms make it easy to turn a walk into a picnic.
The county specifically welcomes guests walking with their dogs here and provides waste bags. Plan on keeping your dog on a leash or restraint no longer than six feet. The park is open from dawn to dusk.
